BALINTAWAK HAMAG
TAUGHT BY ELMER TANCINCO
Wednesday 7:30PM - 9PM
Balintawak HAMAG is a modern FMA Street Self-Defense. It is based primarily on the traditional system of Balintawak, which Venancio “Anciong” Bacon created in Cebu, Philippines, in the 1950s. A reaction-based system designed for close-quarter combat and ambush attacks. The stick is the primary training tool, but the theory is that the stick is only an extension of the arm; the system prepares the practitioner to adapt, whether it is with a baton, knife, improvised blade weapons, or empty-hand fighting.
Balintawak HAMAG was created to hone further proper self-defence and knife surviving techniques in the street while upholding the traditional principle of Bacon—Cuentada. Cuentada is a Spanish word that means to calculate or to counter. In the context of a fight, it is translated as calculated counterattacks. Each movement is therefore carried out by unconsciously anticipating the opponent’s response, making this art a good add-on tool for MMA."
